Grimm & Rattle: Channel Surfing

GRIMM & RATTLE: CHANNEL SURFING is a 3D platformer game where the player takes control of GRIMM, the spectre of death as he dives into his television set on a mission to retrieve the stolen bones of his close friend RATTLE so that he can re-assemble him back to his former glory. Grimm must use his trusty TV remote to alternate between two versions of the same reality; Channel 1 and Channel 2.

Navigate two versions of the same world (using your TV remote to switch channels!) to collect all three of Rattle's bone fragments and return them to him (Rattle is the scarecrow at the start of the level).

If you can't move the camera in web-build, please RIGHT CLICK into the window.
TAB (keyboard)/CREATE (DualSense Controller) shows a summary of the controls. Full control information is listed here:
- Move around with the WASD keys (LEFT STICK on controller)
- Look around with mouse movement (RIGHT STICK on controller)
- Attack with Left Mouse click (R2 on DualSense controller)
- Jump with Spacebar (CROSS on DualSense Controller)
- Talk to scarecrow with E key (SQUARE on DualSense controller)
- Use the remote (switch TV channel) with F key. (CIRCLE on DualSense controller)
- Check collected bones with Z key (TRIANGLE on DualSense controller)

This game was developed within a 10 day time-frame for GameDev.tv Halloween Jam 2025. The theme was implemented by using the image asset model itself directly on the main menu but also further expanding upon it and using it as the primary game mechanic for navigating the game world; cycling/switching between two TV channels on the TV set.
The Trick or Treat twist was adapted with the trick "A helpful feature that turns against you" as the enemies in Channel 2 are more dangerous and plentiful than the enemies in Channel 1 (using weapons instead of their bare hands) - it is helpful to switch worlds in order to navigate effectively but time spent in the second world is more of a risk.
The jam restricted the use of paid assets (even those which are typically paid but we received for free) and as such there are NO paid assets in this game.
This game was developed alone (including some art/assets) by myself. Free assets (including those provided as part of the game jam) used in the creation of this project are:
- Player models, skeleton models and environment models by RG Poly (Cute Graveyard - Halloween Pack)
- Scarecrow model and more environmental models by Kay Lousberg (KayKit : Halloween Bits)
- Television model by Grant Abbitt
- Sounds by Nox_Sound_Design (Essentials Series - Free Sound Effect)
- Sounds by ZapSplat (free sounds only)
- Input icons by Kenney(Input Prompts)
- Platform preview shader by flametime (3D Glitch)
There is an executable version available to download which is highly recommended as it has better performance and better visuals (for example, the preview platforms between worlds are much better in the Windows build)
